ANNUAL COST TO SWIM SURVEY RESULTS
Every year Canyons Aquatics Club conducts a survey to determine the cost to swim from a random sampling of similar swim clubs around Southern California. The goal of the project is to insure that Canyons fees remain among the best in SCS. This year's results reveal that Canyons has managed to keep our fees far below the average and is still the best deal around for all swimmers, from lessons to Olympians. We are proud to be one of the only clubs who choose to sponsor swim meets as our sole source of fundraising and have kept our overhead low by the generous support of our volunteers.

A firm believer that all our kids had enormous potential, his love and affection was not limited to his own family, but to anyone who wore the blue and yellow. To read more please click HERE.

THANK YOU
TO MARC AND GINA...
December 15th marked
the beginning of the new terms of office for the
four newly elected members of the Canyons
Aquatic Club Board of Directors. It also marked
the end of terms for Marc Danny and Gina
Livingstone, who chose not to run for the board
so as to concentrate on directing our extensive
swim meet schedule.
Gina Livingstone joined the our board two years
ago and has been a stedfast advocate for all
swimmers. In particular, she has sought to
strengthen team spirit and volunteerism. A
volunteer (along with husband, John) since the
day her family joined the club, Gina continues
to play a huge role for the club as our Co-meet
Director. Her maternal caring for each and every
swimmer is evident wherever she goes. Mom,
grandmother, cheerleader, volunteer, boss,
friend...Gina has been all things (good things)
to the club and we're thankful.
There
are very few people on the club who remember the
Board of Directors before Marc Danny took
office. A loyal volunteer, Marc has been with
the board since his Daughter, Jordan was
breaking records as an 8 and under. A man of
many talents, Marc's handiwork is all around us.
In fact, even our slick new logo was designed by
Marc. From graphic design, to flipping
hamburgers, to putting out fires, Marc has been
there and done that. He's donated countless
hours, materials and inspiration to the club. As
a board member, the team treasurer and Co-meet
director, Marc's energy is unmatched. Cut Marc
and he bleeds Canyons blue and yellow (and maybe
a bit Hart red and black). To list Marc's
contributions to the club would take too much
time and space. Suffice it to say, Marc has put
the club in front of himself time and time
again. We thank him.
Both
Marc and Gina embody everything that's great
about Canyons and their dedication to our
organization is an inspiration to us all.
Canyons says, "thank you" for their
past and future contributions to the family we
call Canyons Aquatic Club.

CANYONS
STRONG AT AGE GROUP CHAMPS
Canyons
Aquatics sent a very young team the Age Group
Championships at Long Beach. The coaching staff
chose to keep the Senior Gold swimmers out of
the meet have them concentrate on the upcoming
Senior Invitational at Commerce next week.
Canyons coaches are extremely proud of our young
squad as they finished 5th in the women's, mens
and combined team scores. Considering that some
of the other clubs came to the meet with all
their top swimmers, Canyons top 5 finish shows
our club's depth, the success of our Varsity
team as well as the strength of our up and
comers.

polyester suit is a durable standard. For
swimmers who cannot get a good fit from the
Endurance series or do not like the feel,
Canyons has approve a navy lycra team suit
(with logo) as well. The new suits are navy
blue and available in briefs or jammers for
boys and a variety of styles for the girls.
All Canyons swimmers are expected to own a
team suit. |

CANYONS BLOWS THE LIGHTS OUT
AT THE COOKIE MEET
Canyons continues to break new
ground as the first of our three part fall
intersquad meet series hit the water at our
COC pool with 109 swimmers. Perhaps the best
number was 75 as in 75 swimmers who had never
competed for Canyons or as part of a USA club
team before! Despite a blackout (which did NOT
stop the meet) the event was an outstanding
success thanks to the swimmers, their parents
and the Canyons volunteers, many of whom took
time off from work to help our newest and
someday to be, best, learn what it feels like
to swim in a real meet. Canyons thanks the
Coastal Officials who were extremely patient
with our new class of fresh faces and our
coaches, Vicky, Gina, Grace and Guido who got
our kids pumped up and ready to go. The
brainchild of Coach Jay, the Blue and Gold
series takes to the pool again on Saturday the
28th of October for the Blue and Gold Pumpkin
meet (time TBA). For more info on the Cookie
meet CLICK

COC PARKING &
CONSTRUCTION DETOURS
The COC PE building will be
undergoing some major renovations over the
next year. Ordinary access to the building has
been altered. If you choose to park in Lot #5
(always very crowded) you will need to walk up
the hill and turn right at the portables then
enter the PE building from the front. Do
not enter the construction fence and cross the
practice field! That area is off limits!
Once inside, head downstairs and to the locker
rooms. COC would prefer that Canyons parents
start parking in lot 8 located near the
football field. You can get to the PE building
by taking the stairs and paralleling the
football and soccer fields. Lot 8 has plenty
of parking space and is just as close to the
PE building as Lot 5. CLICK

COACH JEFF TO GUIDE COC SWIM
TEAMS
College Of The Canyons has
announced the hiring of our own Jeff Conwell
as the college's next swim coach. Jeff will
guide both the men's and woman's teams as they
seek to build a national caliber junior
college swim program. Collegiate swimming is
nothing new for Jeff who not only swam at
Division I Cal State Northridge, but assistant
coached there as well. Coaching the college
team will be in addition to his work as the
head coach of Canyons Aquatic Club. Canyons
Aquatics has had a successful long-standing
relationship with COC and now that both teams
are guided by the same coach, it's gotten even
better. Congratulations Jeff. |

HOW TO BE A SWIM PARENT
You've been a soccer parent, a
little league parent and maybe even a football
parent, but none of that compares with being a
swim parent. Watching your child learn, grow
and succeed through swimming is a reward
unparalleled by any other sport. There's so
much to know and it's very easy to wrapped up
in one aspect of the sport and forget the
others. To help parents learn everything from
the basics of the sport, their role in
training, nutrition and so much more, USA
Swimming has created an incredible resource on
their web site. Please take the time to look
over this important information. If you have
questions, please contact your coach.

JORDAN DANNY GOES J NAT
AGAIN!
After a tough start in her
first Junior National swim on Tuesday in the
200 breast, Jordan came back Thursday and
dropped over 2 seconds in her 100 breast to
swim a 1:14.47 breaking Jennifer Parmenter's
1994 record of 1:16.03. This was her bonus
event and by dropping 2 seconds she now made
her second Junior National cut and is within
one second of her National cut. She moved up
from being seeded 82 to finishing 36th. As
Canyons's only Junior National representative
the team is very proud of her achievement.
Jordan is only the second swimmer on the team
to break a Jennifer Parmenter record in the
past 12 years. |
 |
BY THE NUMBERS
5 - The number of teams to win
a JO championship over the last 7 years.
39 - Canyons team records broken this year.
7 - Canyons team records broken by more than
one swimmer
6 - SCS records set by Canyons swimmers |
