CANYONS WARMS UP FOR SUMMER AT BUENA
Canyons second long course meet of the season was a terrific opportunity for many of Canyons new swimmer to shine and show their skills. Still early in the season, Canyons swimmers ruled the pool even without the vast majority of our Senior swimmers who sat out the weekend prepping for the CIF Championships this week. The meet, held at the new Bueanventura swim complex will be the site of this summer's AA Championships. Dozens of Canyons new swimmers were on hand to earn their first ever times.
Hayley Good picked up her first Long Course Sectional in the 100 free while Riley Mita earned one in the 1500.
Southern California Reportable Times were earned by: Nicole Antoniuk (200 breast and 50 breast) and Cole Cogswell (200free, 100 back) as well as Riley in the 1500.
Hayley Good also earned a Sr. Development time in the 200 free. Other swimmers earning Sr. D times were: Jonathon Hwang (1500, 100 breast), Bryan Kitchner (100 breast) Kevin Martinez (400, 1500, 50 & 800 free), Michael McGuire (50 free) and Morgan Thibault (1500).
Swimmers picking up new Summer JO times were Nicolette Barreiro (100 Free, 50 Back, 200 Free), Austin Barreiro (50 back), Maliah Grim (50 breast), Mitch Johnson (100 Back, 50 Back), Kirsten Justice (100 free), Liza Kuzntezovea (50 Free), Emma Osowski (100 fly) and Morgan Thibault (100 free)
Winter JO cuts were earned by Nicole Antoniuk (400 Free), Austin Barriero (50 Free, 100 Back, 100 Fly) Derek Chang (50 Free), Rebekah Haw (50 Back, 100 Back), Mitch Johnson (200 free) Liza Kuznetsova (100 breast, 100 back), Kevin Martinez (200free), Connor Mita (50 breast), Nina Morrison (100 fly), Mik Ranslem (50 free).
8 & under swimmers earning new time standards include: Tiffany Farfan (50 breast) getting a RED time, Cameron Helm ((50 fly, 50 breast) earning a red then blue time, Jenna Huntington (100 free, 50 free) red times, Brandon Hwang (50 breast) RED time, Rory Mita (50 breast) Red time, Tanner Olson (100 back) red time and Adam Osowkski (50 breast) red time.
Lina Park led all Canyons swimmers as she went 8 for 8 in her events, dropping time in every race she swam. The lucky sevens were Nicole Antoniuk, Nicolette Barreiro, Christian Farfan, Jonathan Gragas, ZAchary Gray, Andrew Hwang, Mitch Johnson, Melvin Martinez, Davinda Rodrigo. Swimmer taking home 6 new personal records, were Jamie Bloom, Becca Bovert, Ana Cornell, Maliah, Grim, Nelson Guzman, Ashlee Jaco, Kevin Martinez, Connor Mita, Charles Norris, Jenna Powell, and Alyssa Schultz.
