CIF MASTERS MEET
Jordan Danny did it again...for the third time this year. She broke the Canyons team record in the 100 breast (now at 1:03.81) as she fought her way to a silver medal finish at the CIF Masters meet. In what was the closest championship race in recent CIF history, Jordan Danny, Andrea Kropp (Swim Pasadena/Flintridge) and Melissa Bates (Socal/Mater Dei) battled over the 100 yard course only to have six one hundreths separate the three. To make it even more exciting, Jordan (second) finished only one one hundreth behind Kropp. How fast is a one one hundreth of a second? A blink of an eye takes three one hundreths. To make it even more interesting, all three girls broke the masters meet record and thrilled the crowd with their guts and determination. With nothing but freshman and sophomores in the top six, look for next year's 100 breast to a dogfight from start to finish. Jordan's other individual event, the 200IM had the ace breaststroker finishing 18th.
Konrad Antoniuk didn't let the fact the he was one of three freshman in the field of 24 swimmers in the 500 free get to him. The Canyons distance kid came up just shy of his personal record, but in a meet where time means less that place, Konrad finished 5th ahead of some very impressive competition. The 500 came after a brief rest from the 200 free where Konrad was again the top freshman (15th place).
Ryan Kristensen, swam to 5th in the 100 free lowering his best to 47.18 while representing Valencia High. Ryan then competed in the 50 free as part of the fastest field of high school sprinters gathered in quite a while. In fact, Ryan's time (21.72) was good enough for a 9th place finish, and still broke the meet record of 21.74. With less than .9 difference from 1st - 10th, the race was one for the ages.
KT Livingstone not only broke her new Canyons team record in the 100 fly, she destroyed it with a 56.85. In another field of strong talent, KT took home 9th place and earned herself an NRT in the process. Her time is now just a .17 from a national championship qualifying time. A short while later KT swam to 18th place in the 100 back.
Garrett Nugent also came to race taking his 100 fly from a 52.46 down to a 51.77 good enough for a 10th place finish.
In relays, Maggie Hanson, Jordan and Rachael Stoffel (25.43 unofficial 50 free) were part of Hart's 200 yard medley entered in 14th and finished 8th. Chelsea Griffiths, Marissa Rodgers and KT Livingstone worked hard for Canyons high and a 11th place finish. Jasmine Henderson swam for Valencia.
For the boys, KC Linn, Brent Stevenson and Andrew Skvarna were on fire as Hart's 200 medly relay team finished 3rd ahead of them heavy competition. Skvarna kept up his string of blazing relay swims with a 21.76 50 free anchor leg. The trio combined for an 8th place finish in the 200 free relay with Linn swimming 22.22, Stevenson a 22.34 and Skvarna cranking it up to a 21.50
Garrett Nugent helped Valencia to a 7th place finish in the 200 medly relay. Chelsea Griffiths swam the 100 free, Dan Colvin the 100 free and Sarah Pino the 100 breast.
The meet marks the official end for High School swimming in Southern California (except for the Los Angeles City schools). With almost a dozen strong 8th graders on the Canyons Aquatics roster heading to high school in a few months, look for each of the six Foothill League teams to grow in strength next year. Canyons Aquatics is proud to be a part of the success story for each local high school.

DIVISION II CHAMPIONSHIPS
With the CIF season winding down, Canyons swimmers are getting ready to say goodbye to their High School teammates as they return to Canyons and prep for long course. However, the 2007 CIF Championship was a great opportunity to impress as Canyons swimmers were the key elements in their high school's results...
Jordan Danny's 1:03.85 takes .74 off her team record of 1:04.59. The time is a a 15 - 16 National Reportable Time and is only .26 off a Summer National qualifying time. Jordan took 2nd place in the event and is now less than a second away from the CIF meet record. Jordan then fulfilled her promise to win the consolation heat of the 200IM. Going 2:07.12. Her time was the 8th fastest of the day (consolations and preliminaries combined!).
KT Livingstone broke another Jennifer Parameter record, this time in the 100 fly as she churned water en route to a third place finish in an impressive 57.11. Her time takes a narrow .04 off the team record set by Parmenter in 1996 When KT was only 4 years old. KT then led a trio of Canyons swimmers to personal record finishes in the 100 back as she took 5th (58.93) followed by Maggie Hanson in 6th (1:00.16) and Jasmine Henderson in 7th (1:00.56). KT and Maggie were the top freshman backstrokers in the meet.
Konrad Antoniuk, the only freshman in the finals or consol finals for the 500 free, insured his future dominance in this event with an impressive 3rd place finish in 4:37.42 dropping 2.19 second from his prelim swim and coming within .71 of Ryan Parmenter's (no relation to Jennifer)1997 Canyons team record. Konrad, again the only freshman in the top 16 of the 200 free, finished 2nd in the consol finals (10th overall) with a 1:45.56.
Although a clerical error kept Chelsea Griffiths from competing in her signature backstroke (sad for her, a happy day for all the other backstrokers), Chelsea kept her head up, but not so high that it might slow her down in the 100 free where she swam to second place in the consolation finals (10th overall) and 14th in the 50 free.
Ryan Kristensen battled a talented field of seniors in the 50 free finals to take 6th with a 21.78. Ryan then finished in a dead heat tie in the 100 free sharing 6th place and a personal record of 47.23
KC Linn and Nui Harris added points to their respective high schools with 14th and 15th place finishes in the 100 back. KC went 55.01 (54.06 in prelims) and Nui took his best down to 55.10 in finals.
Garrett Nugent, took 7th in the 100 fly with a 52.46 just off his best. Garrett then took 8th in the 200 free.
Andrew Skvarna, a rising star, blazed the water for a 22.17 in the 50 free finishing 3rd in consolations and 11th overall. One of only 3 sophomores in the finals and consolation finals, Andrew clocked an unofficial 21.91 in the anchor leg of his 200 freer relay then a 21.85 in the freestyle anchor level of the 200 medley relay. Andrew opened the 400 freestyle relay with a 49.24 earning himself a sectional time.
Drew Frerichs took his lifetime best 100 breast swim from 1:01.74 down to a 1:01.44 and took 11th place for Valencia High School.
Bryan Kitchner helped Valencia High School to a 15th place finish in the 400 free relays and Rachael Stoffel join her Hart teammates in the women's final of the same event. Brent Stevenson Helped Hart get 6th in the 200 free relay as Marissa Rodgers pushed Canyons high to a 5th place in the 200 medley.
DIVISION IV CHAMPIONSHIPS
Danny Colvin was crowned CIF Division II Champion in the 100 free, turning in a 47.22 (a beat off his preliminary time). Danny then took 5th in the 200 free.
Sarah Pino matched Danny with a 5th place of her own in the 200 IM. She topped that finish with a 3rd place finish in the 100 breast.
Ashley Cecil too her 200 free under the 2:00 mark with a 1:59.92 third place finish. Ashley then won the consolation heat to finished with a strong 1:03.18 in the 100 back, good enough for 9th place.
