THE 7th ANNUAL CRANBERRY CLASSIC

Over 800 of Canyons Aquatics closest friends dropped by The Santa Clarita Aquatics center to attend Canyons 7th Annual Cranberry Classic. This was our third year at SCAC and the second to feature perfect weather. Teams from all over Los Angeles County, far south as Palm Springs as well as from the North (Bakersfield) helped Canyons set the perfect table.

Canyons set a team record with 235 swimmers attending the meet with an excellent showing from every group in the club. Canyons coaches report 259 new swims, four team records broken and two established.

The meet was fun, efficient and the best volunteer effort from Canyons families in club history. There is a reason why Canyons is considered one of the best and fastest growing aquatics programs around, 235 of them were in the water and double that amount were on deck working and cheering.

RECORDS FALL

For the 7th straight meet, Canyons swimmers set team records and, as usual, the records come from more than one swimmer. Over recent months Canyons has emerged as one of the top distance programs and this weekend's results were proof of that. Cole Cogswell started it off breaking the 10 & under 500 freestyle record set by Jonathon Hwang in 2002, with time of 6:20.37. Cole remains in this age group until spring of '08 and should take the record down even more.

Bob Hwang rewrote his 13-14 1000 free record taking it down to a strong 9:51.00. Konrad Antoniuk, also took out his own record, this time in the 13-14 1650, lowering his team record to 16:38.70. Both boys were just of National Reportable times in their events.

8 year old Sasha Kumar established two new records. The first was the 200 IM which she completed in 3:12.42 and then the 100 fly in 1:31.80. Sasha also took another chunk off her 100 back record (set a few weeks ago), lowering it to 1:27.63.

HIGH POINT WINNERS

Canyons swimmers taking High Point were:
Bryana Waage 9 - 10 girls
Guilbert Casequin 15- 16 boys
Michael Chui 17 & older boys
Nui Harris 13 - 14 boys

THANK YOU

The Coaches, Board and Meet Committee wish to thank all the parents who help out at the meet. This event set a new record for volunteerism. It is through the help of our parents that Canyons has grown into one of the top programs in Soutern California. Successful swim meets are the reason that Canyons Aquatics is one of the only teams in Southern California that does not ask our swimmers to fundraise. As long as Canyons has the support of our wonderful families, we will continue to be the top Aquatics program not only in Santa Clarita, but in all of Southern California. Thank you parents (and grandparents) for all you do. Canyons also wishes to thank the staff of the Santa Clarita Aquatics complex who have always come through for our club.
