CANYONS RED WHITE AND BLUE MEMORIAL DAY MEET

Canyons Swimmers entered the water in record numbers this past Memorial Day weekend at Canyons second annual Red, White and Blue Memorial Day swim meet. Easily one of the best meets around, the event featured swimmers from as far away as Sunnyvale California. In the water, the results spoke for themselves with some of the fastest races in Southern California this year coming out of the meet.

As he's done for years, Bob Hwang led the attack breaking 3 team records but never breaking a sweat. Bob's 3 included the 100 free where Bob clocked a 55.26 breaking the team record of Ryan Parmenter's (55.80) set in 1996. Bob proceeded to pick on Parmenter as he took out Parameter's 200 free record of 2:01.14 with a strong 2:00.43. Bob's third record came in the 100 fly where he topped his own record of 1:00.77. Joining Bob in rewriting the team record book was Konrad Antoniuk who obliterated the team record in the 800 free (8:57.09) set by Kent Klawer in 2001 with an impressive 8:45.55.

Time drops were recorded at a record pace as Canyons swimmers registering 528 time drops on 186 swimmers.

Leading the way on time drops with 9 time drops, one for each race they swam, were Konrad Antoniuk and Nina Morrison. Konrad picked up three new sectional cuts (200 free, 100 fly, 200 fly) as well as his first 2007 North American Challenge Cup qualifying time in the 200IM. Coming off a strong high school season, Konrad show no post CIF slowdown as he continues to plow ahead. Nina Morrison earned herself a "Q" time in the 200 free and continues to climb the Canyons top ten list with her outstanding sprints.

Brothers Christopher and Cole Cogswell joined their Summit neighbor Mitch Johnson with 8 time drops. Also joining the elite 8 club were JO swimmers Liza Kuznetsova and Emma Osowkski. Chris earned two Summer Age Group Championship times while Cole picked up another Southern California Reportable Time. Mitch Johnson dropped over 30 seconds in his 800 free and Liza picked up a JO time in the 50 breast and a SCRT in the 200IM. Emma picked up a blue time in the 400 free dropping 5.8 seconds.
