29th ANNUAL SEMANA NAUTICA SWIM MEET
Canyons Aquatics rolled into Santa Barbara for the 29th Annual Semana Nautica meet and rolled out with a second place finish mostly off the work of our younger swimmers as the senior skipped this event to train for the upcoming championship meets. Even with only about 1/4 of our competitive team on hand, the kids from the Canyons did great.
Several swimmers picked up new times standards including Maliah Grim who earn 3 JO cuts, Augstina Hansen with 4 new cuts, Derk Chang picked up the 50 fly jO cut and Jenna Powell earned her short course JO cut in the 100 breast. Mik Ranslem earned two short course JO cuts in the 50 back and the 100 breast, while Megan Schultz picked up her 200 IM and 200 free short course cuts as did Bryanna Waage in the 200 free. Allison Morales earn a NAG time in the 400 free
Time drops are always a big part of a Canyons swim and this weekend saw plenty. The leader was Matt Johnson with 9 drops followed by David Van Name with 9. Mitch Johnson and Augustina Hansen each had 7 personal records with, Vanessa Smith, Mik Ranselm, Tara Olson, Nelson Guzman and Maliah Grim notching 6 best ever times. Swimmers with 5 personal records included Tamara Santoyo, Karina Rodgers, Michael McGuire and Nicole Antoniuk.
The meet organizers handed out top six plaques for each age 7 and over and the Canyons kids collected a heck of a lot of hardware.
