SENIOR D MEET PREPS SWIMMERS FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
With Spring Sectionals and JO's just a few weeks away, swimmers from the JO, Sr. Blue and Sr. Gold joined Coach Jeff and Coach Mike in beautiful Palm Springs for the annual Senior Development meet. The four day event featured great competition including an opportunity for Canyons swimmers to face off against Orange County swimmers from Mission Viejo and NOVA.
For Canyons the meet was more of a training mission with swimmers and coaches fine tuning their game for the upcoming championship meets. Swimming with no rest, several of the Canyons crew swam to lifetime bests.
As he's done for years now, Bob Hwang took a few team records home with him. In the preliminaries of the 500, Bob broke the team record with an impressive 4:45.54 narrowly breaking the record held by Ryan Parmenter (no relation to Jennifer Parmenter) of 4:45.99 set in 1996.
Not content with one record, Bob obliterated another 1996 record, this one for the 400 IM held by Tyler Clark (4:12.09). Bob blazed to an incredible 4:11.60 to not only break the team record but win the Championship final and earn a new National Reportable Time.
Riley Mita picked up his second and third sectional cuts first in the 1000 free with a 10:00.45 and then in the 500 free with a 4:52.55. Riley made it to the consolation finals in the 500 free, 200 back and the 400IM setting personal records in 8 out of his 10 races.
Jasmine Henderson earned a new sectional time in the 200 breaststroke swimming her way to the championship finals with a 2:27.82 and making the finals of the 200 breast, the 100 breast and the 200 IM. Jasmine swam to 4 personal records out of 7 swims.
13 year old Adria Morales took over the lead in her and sister Allison's quest to break Jennifer Parmenter's 1000 free record (10:25.82 set in 1995). Adria went 10:38.91 taking 6th place in a race where the average age for the top 10 was 16 years old and earned herself a new Sectional time along the way. The twins have almost 2 years to work on the record, so it's not a question of "if" but "when" and then "who". Adria then finished 6th in the 1650 free, 8th in the 200 back (2:13.36), 8th in the 100 fly (1:02.55) right behind Allison (7th, 1:02.51). Allison took 10th in the 200 fly.
Nui Harris turned in a strong consol final in the 100 free going 49.37 (he's gone faster) turning in the days 5th fasted 100. Nui then flipped on this back to finish 6th in the championship final of the 200 back with a 2:02.98.
Andrew Skvarna made his way to finals in the 100 back turning in two "Q" time swims including an impressive 57.63 100 back. Andrew swam to 9 PRs in his 12 swims.
KT Livingstone, picked up personal bests in 7 of her 9 races including making it to consol finals in the 100 free (55.25), the 500 free, the 50 free and the 200 breaststroke. Teammate Kirsten Justice earned 5 personal bests in 8 swims including two "Q" times. Hayley Good show her sprint speed making it to consol finals with her day's best of 55.41 and picked up her 5th JO time and Jordan Danny was 4 for 4 on personal records swimming to consol finals both the 200 back and the 100 free. Dan Colvin showed his sprint speed finishing 3rd in the 50 free finals.
Alvina Wong had a strong meet dropping time in 50% of her races while Maggie Hanson earned her way to four finals. Sam Asencio earned solid PRs in the 500 and 1000 free while Drew Frerichs was 7 for 9 on PR swims including 6th place finishes in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes. Curren Bates knocked off 4 out of 5 personal records while Stephen Haw picked up his 7th JO cut with a strong 400 IM.
Congratulations to all the Canyons swimmers and best of luck at the upcoming Championship meets.
