Where to go on your first day.

Please have your swimmers dress in their swimsuit and use the bathroom before coming to the pool.

Swimmers should bring their bag with their equipment with them and meet their coach by the side of the 25 yard pool.

Parents should take their swimmer's birth certificate or passport to the office to fill out their USA swimming registration for the current year if they have not already done so.  You may also pick up your parking pass from the office. Otherwise, all parents and siblings must remain in the designated seating areas during practice due to insurance reasons.

Rules and Expectations

Age Group Swimmers are good teammates.
Here are some rules to remember to help us be the best teammates we can be.

1) Be at practice, on time and ready to go.
  • Come to practices!
  • Come early, so you are ready to go when practice starts.
  • Swimmers are in charge of packing and bringing all their own equipment.

2) Be kind and respectful.

  • To your coach - listen and follow directions.  Raise your hand if you have a question.
  • To your teammates - never kick, injure, or put down another swimmer.
  • To the pool area - no food, drinks, or band-aids in the pool area.  Throw away any trash.  If you borrow equipment, treat it nicely and put it away when you are done.
  • Parents will receive a pass to park in the designated parking lots 7 or 8, or may purchase a pass to park in lot 5.  There is no parking available by the pool for swimming parents, drop-off only.

3) Be safe and aware.

  • Don’t run in the pool area or anywhere on campus.
  • Bathrooms are for using the toilet only, do not change or shower in the bathrooms. Ask a coach if you need to go to the bathroom and take a buddy. Boys over four years old may not enter the women's locker room.
  • Don't enter other buildings on campus.
  • Snack machines in the PE building must be entered from outside, not through the locker rooms.  Ask a coach and take a buddy to go to the snack machines.
  • Parents - please walk your swimmers between the pool area and the parking lot.
  • Parents and siblings need to remain in the bleacher area during practice, only swimmers are allowed on the pool deck.  Swimmers who are dropped off early or remaining at the pool late must stay in the bleachers.
  • Use a feet-first entry unless told to dive by your coach.  Use a three-point entry when other swimmers are in the water by the wall.  Never push someone into the water or hold someone under water.

4) Be a good swimmer.

  • Work hard and always do your best.
  • Don’t correct other swimmers, or worry about who is slower or faster than you.
  • Cheer on your teammates.
  • Have fun!

Equipment

Birth Certificate or Passport – if you are a new swimmer to the team, please bring this to the office on your first day and fill out the USA Swimming registration with the COC Office.

Practice Attire - All swimmers must wear goggles – the Speedo Vanquisher or Junior Vanquisher goggles are great. Swimmers who have hair long enough to get in their eyes when they swim must wear a swim cap. All swimmers should have a competitive style swimsuit – jammers or racers for boys, one-piece with no ties for girls.

Meet Attire – all swimmers must wear a Yellow Canyons cap and a solid Navy Blue Speedo brand swimsuit to meets. (It cannot be TYR or Sporti etc. must be Speedo.) The suits with the team logo are available at Swimworks. The endurance fabric really does last longer. Your suit needs to be TIGHT! Suits stretch, they do not shrink and if it is too big it will drag in the water and slow you down, or worse, fall off.  Most competitive swimmers wear a size or two DOWN from their clothing size.

Equipment List – Age Group I, Age Group II, Age Group III
Mesh Equipment “Wet Bag” – to hold all of your equipment. This bag should be kept by the side of the pool, and will be wet. That is why the mesh works so well.
Junior Speedo Kickboard – The “normal” looking kickboard that is straight on one side and curved on the other side, the smaller junior size please for AG I and AG II. AG III can purchase the adult size or the junior size.
Junior Speedo Pull Buoy - AG III can purchase adult size or the junior size.
Speedo Bullet Head Snorkel (Front Mount Swimmer’s Snorkel) – Not the same as a Diving Snorkel
Speedo Trialon Fins (Sporti Floating Fins for smaller feet) – these are the longer swimmer’s fins. They are not diving fins, but they should not be the short, training fins. Please get the correct ones.

Optional, but recommended
Dry Equipment Bag – the Speedo backpacks are really nice and can be ordered embroidered at Swimworks. The medium size is probably perfect for younger kids, but the large size will hold everything you would ever need. The small one is too small. If you don’t get the Speedo one, bring some type of bag to put your clothes and towels in.
Canyons Parka – really wonderful to have when the weather gets cooler for those outdoor meets. Order them really large now, and they will last forever. Get these at Swimworks, and order early because the embroidery takes some time.

Absences

Good attendance is a key to improvement. Please contact your coach regarding any absences. There will be no "make up" practices offered.
