Head Coach
Senior Elite Coach

Coach Kyle intends to place a renewed emphasis on achieving the high standards that the Canyons
Aquatic Club is known for throughout California and the nation since its founding in 1978. He
envisions a well-rounded club with space for all swimmers, from those seeking to win
Olympic medals to those looking to have a fun, recreational swimming experience. “I believe
in helping athletes achieve a high level of self-confidence while building a positive team
culture. We will be a process-oriented team, focused on building a supportive environment,
centered around personal and athletic excellence,” says Hastings. He brings with him a
balance of traditional swim training along with the use of new technology and techniques to
continuously advance the achievements of the swimmers at Canyons.

Kyle’s background includes extensive experience at the high school, USA Club, and NCAA
Division I collegiate level. Kyle most recently served as head swim coach and aquatics
director at Ransom Everglades Aquatic Club in Miami, FL. He served from 2015-18 as head
coach of Central Iowa Aquatics, where he coached several athletes who achieved Olympic
Trial cuts, won scholarships to Division I schools or posted top-10 times in the nation. Prior to
his tenure in Des Moines, he was assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Indiana
University, where he helped prepare three athletes to win Olympic gold medals at the 2016
Summer Games. He also coached world record holders, NCAA and Big 10 champions and
multiple U.S. national team members. During that time while working with the sprinters the
Hoosiers set new school marks in men's 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay, 200
medley relay and 400 medley relay.

Coach Kyle earned his bachelor’s at West Virginia Wesleyan and master’s at the University
of Maryland.
