Learning to swim at the age of 10, Coach Tim has always had strong ties to Canyons Aquatics. Starting from what is now known as Pre-Team, Tim worked his way up throughout the years to eventually swimming for his current Head Coach, Kevin Nielsen. In addition to swimming for Canyons, Tim also swam for Saugus High School’s varsity team for four years. One of his most memorable achievements from his swimming days was being a part of the CIF Div 1 runner-up teams in both the 200 and 400 Freestyle relays next to his Canyons teammates. After that, Tim would swim for Colorado Mesa University before transferring back to the Santa Clarita Valley to pursue a career in education at CSUN.
Upon hanging up the cap and goggles, Tim decided that he wanted to give back to the sport that gave him so much. In 2019, he would start his first coaching stint as an assistant coach at Saugus High School under Coaches Jim Klipfel and Krista Botton. After his first high school season, Tim came back to Canyons Aquatics first as a swim school instructor and eventually moving up to coaching the Pre-Team and AG1 groups--the place where it all started for him. After his first year, Tim went on to take a break from club coaching to focus on school and his personal life. In 2021, Tim would come back, this time as the primary coach for Senior Varsity and AG3. He continues to assist the Saugus team, but he holds no bias toward his club swimmers who hail from other teams. Currently, Tim is a senior at CSUN, pursuing a degree in English while hoping to attend the credential program upon graduation. His hobbies include reading, writing, bowling, and anything that involves being outside. Education is very important to Tim as he considers himself a lifelong learner, both in and out of the pool. He hopes to cultivate a culture within his groups and the team that promotes hard work, discipline, and a passion not just for swimming--but for life as well. |
